This wonderfully handcrafted sterling Navajo naja is very old and traditionally designed and constructed. It has some primitive aspects as the stamping is irregular, the manicure job done after the casting is not what you see in more contemporary pieces and the back of the naja is rough with several hammer strikes and file marks visible. The bail is also very simply done. The Broken Bow mine stone is unusual as the matrix is white where most mines produce dark matrix. The stone is not cracked—those are matrix lines—it’s set in deep flat bezel and measures 3/4” by 3/8”. The naja measures 2” by 2.25” overall and weighs 33 grams. The edges are worn smooth from use and the naja is covered in warm age patina. Excellent condition and very collectable due to it’s age and semi-primitive nature.
