Dating this outstanding example of early Navajo handcrafted art places it in the mid to late 1930s. It measures 2″ across, the Blue Gem stone is 3/16 by 5/16 and set in flat bezel, it weighs 41 grams and the lanyard is 36″ long including the tips. The arrow elements on the tips are handcrafted as are the tips themselves—the arrows are different sizes and one has 6 feather strikes on one side where the rest have 5. The repousse elements aren’t evenly spaced—were done by eyeballing the distances, and the stamping on the arcs varies considerably. The lanyard guide is indicative of the time period being two simple sterling straps. There’s no artisan hallmark and the bolo is covered in warm age patina. This piece is in excellent condition and would make an outstanding addition to any collection. Larger images in the video.
