This unusual three bar Navajo cast buckle weighs 58 grams, measures 3.75” by 1 3/8” and is 1/8” thick. Still working on the artisan ID as the hallmark is worn away for the most part, or was incomplete to begin with. Someone polished it as is evident by recesses with dark patina. It’s a tad wider at one end than the other—the bars are not perfectly parallel. Made for a 3/4” to 9/16” belt. Thick, sturdy tongue and the belt mechanism sure looks handcrafted to me. The back of the buckle is rough from the casting and the bars, especially the middle one, still have a slight “flare” from when it was cast—it wasn’t filed down as far as it might have been. There may be a few more around from this same cast, but I’m certain I’ll never see one. Excellent condition.
