Navajo Pawn Sterling Handcrafted Dangle Feather Earrings

Great attention to detail on this set of old pawn Navajo sterling feather earrings. The construction method of creating the domed feathers, then soldering the spine into place in such a way as to allow the inclusion of a tiny handcrafted loop, speaks clearly to the dedication and talent of this unknown Navajo artisan. The chisel chased lines on the feathers are done with great accuracy and there was additional cutting work involved on the tips of the feather sections once this was accomplished. One earring has 12 sections on the outside of the feather and the other has 11, speaking clearly to the handcrafted nature of this set. Simple, clean, elegant design. The earrings measure 1.25” by 3/8” not counting the wires, which have been replaced and are considerably newer than the earrings themselves. The set weighs 6 grams, they’re covered in age patina making the design pop real well, and they’re in amazing condition—that the tiny, delicate loops have survived is pretty surprising.
