The Papago, or Tohono O’odham, have been developing baskets for the market made from yucca splints for many years, and the workmanship is such that they have become very highly regarded. This basket is in pristine condition, like new, which leads me to believe it was made in the last decade. It’s unusual handle design required some considerable craftsmanship from the artisan. The subtle Southwestern Prairie color scheme is indicative of the genre and it makes a wonderful display piece. The basket measures 9.25β across at the handles and is 2.25β in depth.
