Rare Vintage Handcrafted Navajo Lone Mountain Turquoise Ring by May Kellewood

May Kellewood uses older design techniques yet has an individual style that makes her work stand out and this ring is no exception. This large format, size 11 ring has several unusual attributes; the Lone Mountain mine stone is a beautiful example of what the mine was producing several decades ago–the vivid blue stones have been mined out, with current production stones being more gray in color. The stone measures .75” by 5/16” and is set in deep, flat bezel of almost .25”. The feather accents as well as the vines and raindrops are carefully executed, but the really creative element of the ring is the raised fan accent that echos the curve of the stone—very unique. The sterling wires that makes up the border of the ring design are artfully hand stamped and they come together to make the ring’s double shank–it appears the ring has been previously sized. The ring face measures a substantial 1.5” by 1”, it weighs 12 grams and the ring has nice age patina with it’s edges being worn smooth from use. Kellewood’s work is scarce as she doesn’t produce a large volume of pieces. She is also known as an excellent fetish carver.
