Vintage Gwen Tafoya Bold Santa Clara Blackware Avanyu Pot

Gwen Tafoya of the Santa Clara- Tewa Pueblo is a well respected potter who has won numerous important awards for her work. Born in 1965 and was taught by her mother, Mary Agnes Tafoya. Gwen comes from a famous family of potters Including Madeline Naranjo. She won “Best of Show,” First, and Second at Gallup Ceremonials in New Mexico, “Best of Show” in Pasadena CA, and top awards, including First Place, at the N.M. State Fair and Eight Northern Pueblo Shows. Her work is referenced in the Publication Pueblo Indian Pottery: 750 Artist Biographies. This outstanding Avanyu representation is done in deep relief, measures 3.5” tall, 4 5/8” wide and has an opening of 2.5”. Signed by the artisan with the addition of “PUE” under hter signature, this pot is in outstanding condition with zero faults.
