The terrific use of color and intricate design on this Chimayo wool rug, was executed with concerted attention to detail. Some of the design elements are minute yet perfect in all respects. The Trujillo Weaving Shop of Chimayo is renowned for employing superior materials and experienced artisans to create their offerings. With it’s roots in Colonial Spanish methods, that started with Gabriel Ortega in the 1700s, the methods have changed little over the centuries. Super-tight weaves of naturally dyed wool are the sign of an artisan following edicts laid down when the art form was in it’s infancy. This is such a weaving; bold, bright colors and a dazzling design. Measuring 40×23”, in “like new” condition, this would make a wonderful hall runner or wall hanging.
