The use of colorful and intricate geometric design on this Chimayo wool rug is outstanding. The boldly colored center elements as well as the edge designs are cleanly executed by an experienced weaver. With it’s roots in Colonial Spanish methods, that started with Gabriel Ortega in the 1700s, the methods have changed little over the centuries. Super-tight weaves of naturally dyed wool are the sign of an artisan following edicts laid down when the art form was in it’s infancy. This is an vintage rug, probably 1940s or older, and the colors have faltered slightly, but it’s still very vibrant and makes a great presentation of the art form. Measuring 40×19”, it’s the perfect size for a hall runner or wall hanging. Super condition with no stains, damage or fraying.
